WIN96

Win96 is a program that will allow you to program your own scanner.  This program uses files with the extension of .p96 (data files) to program your radio.  You can usually find a .p96 file for just about any city in the country by looking on the internet.  See below if you wish to download this software from the K3SAM website.

As the Westmoreland County Radio System progresses I will make every attempt to have a .p96 download file ready to cover your needs.  At this writing there are two files available.  These files contain all the known talkgroups to date including those that have NOT transmitted yet so you will be all set up when they come on line.

To use these files just click on the .p96 file you wish to use, download it then save it to your Win96 folder.
Bring up your copy of WIN96 and load that file into your program.
Then program the radio.

Don Starr has made Win96 available to all for free for 30 days to evaluate.
Should you like it then you must pay a small amount to Don for registration and support to continue it's use.
Don Starr's Company is called Starrsoft and you can download Win96 from his website.
Just click on the Win96 link below to download the Win96 program.
You can reach Don by sending him an email at
don@starrsoft.com.
(Starrsoft supplies all support for this product.)

PRO96COM

The PRO96COM program connects between your scanner and computer and turns your computer screen into a mini-911 Center screen.  You can watch all the activity from any Radio Shack (GRE) Brand Scanner that has the 9600 baud P25 APCO system, while it is happening !

This program was written by Michael Vander Veer and is offered on the K3SAM website as a courtesy.
All support is supplied through Mr. Vander Veer.

I have also added the files needed to get your PRO96COM program up to date with the Westmoreland County 800 Mhz System.  The file includes talkgroup, tower, and individual radio information.

(this will replace your existing data so you may wish to back up your files first)

You can download the PRO96COM program from the K3SAM website.  See below.

BOTH WIN96 and PRO96COM REQUIRE A DATA INTERFACE CABLE (PURPLE CABLE) THAT CONNECTS BETWEEN THE SCANNER AND THE COMPUTER.

THE PURPLE CABLE

Although this cable is not really Purple ( it's black ) it has been dubbed that name.  This is the cable you will need to use either of the two PRO-96 / PRO-2096 programs listed above.  It connects between your computer's serial port and the PC/IF port on your scanner.

You may purchase the cable from several locations on the internet and at any Radio Shack location.  Please check your local Radio Shack to see if they have it in stock (RS P/N #20-289)

I purchased my cable from Black Bag Software and their website is
www.BlackBagSoftware.com.  They provided me with excellent 2 day normal service at a good price.
